Senior Discounts and Savvy Saving | TV Ears News and Views

Aug 11, 2012

You've aged like a fine wine, have a lifetime of stories, and society offers its subtle thanks for the 55 years you've put in: the senior discount.

For some, the first time they're asked, "Would you like the senior discount?" it's a shock, a pleasant surprise, or maybe an unwelcome assumption.

Others aren't waiting to be asked. They're asking first.

"The main thing is to ask, and I always do," Texas resident Cleo Johnson told The Keene Star. Johnson, with his wife Shirley, takes advantage of Taco Bell's senior drinks.

Others use senior discounts to purchase movie tickets with friends, or receive discounts on meals. The standard varies, though. Different establishments seem to set their own standards as to just who is considered "senior discount qualified."

In many ways, the standard was set with the birth of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), an organization that did not accept members below the age of 50.

AARP discounts can lower cost on everything from eyeglasses to hotel rooms.

So it seems as though the best bet is to ask for the discount: It doesn't hurt, and may save you some money!
