WASHINGTON ? U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre, founder and chairman of the Congressional Caucus of Youth Sports, was recently honored by the National Council on Youth Sports for his leadership as he helped kick-off a celebration of National Youth Sports Week on Capitol Hill.
?All over our great nation, youth sports organizations, coaches, officials, parents, and volunteers are making a difference each and every day in the life of our young people,? McIntyre said. ?This event was to highlight and celebrate the importance of youth sports in our communities, and the positive impact they have on building productive and healthy citizens. Thanks to all the folks in Eastern North Carolina and our nation who are truly changing lives ? one individual and one team at a time.?
The National Council of Youth Sports representing more than 200 organizations/corporations serving 60,000,000 boys and girls registered in organized youth sports programs, honored McIntyre for his vision and dedication to ?enhancing the youth sports experience.?
NCYS joined the Youth Sports Caucus and Congressional Caucuses on Childhood Obesity, Fitness, Olympics and Paralympics, and Tennis, to host a demonstration on Capitol Hill showcasing the importance of youth sports in character development, healthy lifestyles, and teamwork. Specifically, the event highlighted the importance for youth to PLAY sports focusing on:
?? Physical Activity Participation
?? Living Healthy
?? Access
?? Youth Development
?? Safety
?McIntyre, who has coached youth sports, including three All-American Drug-Free Teams, has worked with numerous national sports organizations to promote youth sports, recreation and fitness over the last several years and has been named a Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport.
