MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. -- The? Spokane County Sheriff?s Office is investigating an overnight vandalism at the Lake Assembly of God in Medical Lake.

Pastor Dennis Noble said the crook or crooks caused? more than $50,000 of damage.

The crime occurred sometime between the hours of 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect destroyed several computers, kicked in doors, broke windows, and wrote messages like ?die? inside the church.

Noble said deputies are investigating the vandalism as a hate crime, because the goal of the suspect or suspects was to ?destroy as many things as possible?. Very few items were actually stolen from the church.

?Members of the church started arriving to help clean up Sunday afternoon.

Noble said deputies were able to recover shoe and finger prints from the church. He said the suspect? also took a break from the vandalism to eat a meal from the church?s kitchen.

Apple TV release date, rumours and images

Blogs

Following Apple CEO Tim Cook?s comments that the television is an area of ?intense interest? for the company, the web has lit up with speculation about what the future could hold for Apple?s widely anticipated living room take-over. Most of the excitement surrounds the idea that Apple might have an actual television in the pipeline (fuelled by?Steve Jobs? comments in his biography?that he had ?cracked? television). However, many are speculating that Apple might intend only to update the Apple TV set top box in such a way that Apple might be able to transform television without even having to build a box of their own.

Will Apple launch a new Apple TV or an Apple Television?

Reports claim that there is a fully-fledged Apple television already in production, however, even the most excitable of analysts thinks it?s unlikely that Apple will launch a television set this year. Instead it seems much more likely that the company will be revamping its Apple TV set top box with new features.

There is a school of thought that Apple would be better off concentrating its efforts on?developing its current Apple TV?device, rather than pursuing the idea of an actual television.

However, some reports suggest that even the Apple TV, for so many years descried by Apple as a hobby, is a dead end. The?market for set-top boxes?is a growing one, according to HIS iSuppli, but it is still insignificant when compared to other markets, such as smartphones. One reason for the lack of popularity of set-top boxes is that more and more smart TVs have the functionality built in. So why buy a separate box.

Whether it turns out to be a lucrative market or not, all eyes are on Apple to fix it, and if the company doesn?t do anything relating to television this year it?s likely to disappoint many and, perhaps unfairly, attract criticism.

New Apple TV release date

So, given that the likely hood of Apple revamping the Apple TV is high, when are we likely to see the new box?

Apple last updated the Apple TV in March 2012. The third generation model looked and acted exactly the same as the previous model, but added 1080p video support. The launch came in conjunction with Apple TV Software Update 5.0, which bought the new features (with the exception of 1080p) to older Apple TVs. Changes include an interface overhaul, access to your purchased movies for streaming, the ability to purchase movies directly from your Apple TV, and access to Genius Playlists and Mixes in your iTunes Match music and Photo Stream.

A new fourth generation Apple TV could well launch exactly one year later in March 2013. However, we believe a new Apple TV is likely to launch in conjunction with an update to iOS. We expect to see iOS 7 at WWDC in June, and believe there is a possibility of the new iPhone and iPad operating system being rolled out into the Apple TV, along with access to iOS Apps on that device.

New Apple TV 4 ? leaked images

It?s unlikely that the design of the Apple TV will change from the current model. What may change is the ports on the back.

Currently the Apple TV features the following ports: HDMI2, Optical audio, 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, Built-in IR receiver and Micro-USB (for service and support).

Thunderbolt might be a start, then users could connect their Apple TV to an Apple Thunderbolt Display and pretend that they own the mythical Apple Television. Currently the Apple TV can only connect to a HD TV with an HDMI cable. Many who have decried the Apple TV?s lack of a hard drive would be pleased if the company made the USB service port accessible for plugging in a hard drive.

New Apple TV rumours ? Bluetooth

Reports are suggesting that Apple?s set top box may gain Bluetooth functionality in a move that could set that device on its way to taking over the living room.

If?Apple was to bring Bluetooth to Apple TV,?users would be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard with the Apple TV, making it easier to add text (currently it is necessary to scroll through the alphabet, selecting one letter at a time with the remote control). The ability to use a keyboard with the Apple TV would make navigation of the iTunes Store and YouTube much easier.

Not only would typing be a breeze, you will be able to use arrow keys for navigation, the Return key to play or pause, and the Escape key to back-step.

It?s unlikely that the Bluetooth connection would be used to connect to speakers ? speakers are more likely to use Airplay. Nor will the Apple TV connect to the Mac via Bluetooth.

Another advantage of Bluetooth connectivity, it could open up a raft of third party remotes.

New Apple TV rumours ? Siri voice control??

A Bluetooth connected remote could also include a mic for Siri input, allowing users to control the Apple TV via speech.

New Apple TV rumours ? DVR and cloud based recording?

Apple is said to be in talks with cable companies in the US, hoping to come to an agreement that would allow the Apple TV to be used as a DVR (digital video recorder).

According?to the Wall Street Journal report, the DVR version of the Apple TV would let customers store TV shows in the cloud to be watched when they like. It would also allow users to access the TV shows they had recorded on the iPhone or iPad.

Sounds like a great idea. Such a facility would turn the Apple TV into more than a mere streaming device and increase the content available to users. However, it has been reported that one of the major hangups is?resistance by content providers?to give Apple maker permission to make their programming available in this way.

New Apple TV rumours ? Apple to be the new Foxtel

Another suggestion is that Apple could set itself up as an alternative to the cable and satellite TV providers. Imagine Apple going head to head with Sky, Foxtel? And don?t forget it would also be competing with the free TV services from Freeview.

In Australia, and in the US and elsewhere, Apple would face strong competition, from broadcasters and established platforms for free TV.

New Apple TV rumours ? TV as apps ??

An alternative idea would be that in the future we will be able to subscribe to content in the form of apps. Currently you can buy a series pass to a programme you like, with that programme delivered to your device each week. Could a production company package up their programming in an app and allow subscribers to download the content to their devices, effectively cutting out the middle man?

Former Apple exec Jean-Louis Gass?e writes: ?Cook has one thing right: The set-top box experience does place one back in time by 20 to 30 years. The solution??Channels, shows, special events should all be presented as apps. Click, pay and play, with standard fare for free. Catch the 6pm news when you get home at 9.30; watch two programmes side-by-side with Android 7 or iOS 9, all on your screen of choice: smartphone, tablet, PC or TV?.

Gassee notes that the obstacle is the ?tangled, encrusted business models that the Comcasts, CBSs, and Disneys cling to out of fear that Apple will wrest control of their content, that they?ll be disintermediated ? la iTunes or the iPhone/iPad App Store.?

New Apple TV rumours ? gaming???

We have previously speculated that the?Apple TV could become a games console, with iOS already being a popular gaming platform.

The rumour that Apple could turn the Apple TV into a games console has been running for some time.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter claimed Apple had a clear strategy to turn the Apple TV into an all round entertainment system.

?I think Apple has a deliberate strategy. They want to see what they can do with the handhelds ? iPod Touch and iPhone ? first, then move into console games,? Pachter said. ?Apple TV is the device that they can turn into a console, and they have essentially the same goals as Microsoft ? to turn Apple TV into an entertainment and Internet hub.?

New Apple TV rumours ? 802.11ac networking ??

Apple looks likely to add a preliminary version of?802.11ac?to its Apple TV as well as the Airport base stations as soon as the next major product line refresh.

802.11ac has the capacity to wirelessly network a TV, DVR, smart phone, and sound system, and allow access through an internet-connected device.

Sometimes referred to as ?Gig Wifi? of 5G Wi-Fi, 802.11ac is the successor to 802.11n. However, the standard is still in Draft, not having received final approval by the IEEE, yet. This approval isn?t likely to come until later in 2013. This doesn?t mean that Apple will wait until the standard is approved ? Apple has shipped products using draft versions of wireless standards in the past (see 802.11n).

New Apple TV rumours ? test run for the Apple television ? ??

The question is whether these new features would be enough for Apple TV to transform television. It?s fair to say that Apple could test out these ideas on the current device before launching an actual television set onto the market, if that is its plan.

Junior dos Santos claims personal problems at root of poor performance against Cain Velasquez

Posted by Brendhan Conlan on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 3:30 pm? 7 Comments?

Velasquez v Dos SantosThe Junior dos Santos fans saw a few weeks ago in a heavyweight title-bout with Cain Velasquez at UFC 155 was far from the fighter folks had come to know during the former champion?s run in the organization leading up to the tilt. In the headlining clash, Dos Santos was outclassed in every department, eating strike after strike without ever really returning fire, and suffered a clear-cut Unanimous Decision loss as a result.

Dos Santos was recently asked if he could pinpoint what his problem was in the match-up, and, rather than profess to be at his best, ?Cigano? stated he had a few issues during the bout?s build including some matters in his life outside of the Octagon he wasn?t willing to detail.

?Really it was my head,? said Dos Santos of the lackluster showing in a conversation with Brazilian outlet Nagradedo MMA. ?I had some personal things going on (and) a bit of my attention was lacking because of it.?

?And another thing. Soon after the fight I went to the hospital and had a scan, which showed my creatine level was too high. The normal level is up to 300, mine was in 1400. I also had trouble in the urine and kidneys,? he continued. ?The explanation of the doctors is that I pushed over the line, I over trained, and problems could have happened even before the fight? I was so good that I ended up crossing the line. That was the explanation of doctors. Mine is that I was not good with my head, was having personal problems and did not go well mentally in the fight.?

The heavy-handed striker?s loss to Velasquez was Dos Santos? first since signing with the UFC and snapped a ten-fight winning streak. On the bright side, it was also a learning experience for the 28-year old who concluded, ?Going forward I will be more careful, it will take my body to the limit all the time. I need to know how my body is reacting to what I am doing. We need to be a bit more professional about it. I will do tests during preparation. This fight also taught me that we have to be stronger with the head, think things strategy and better monitor the tactical part.?

Colorado Avalanche coach Joe Sacco happy to be back at rink around players

Avalanche coach Joe Sacco had a long time to think about his opening-night lineup.

"Six months," the fourth-year coach said Saturday during his first news conference since the 2011-12 regular-season finale last April.

After last summer's free-agent signings, beginning July 1, and the first cancellation of NHL games in October that led to a four-month lockout, Sacco waited for the day to talk publicly about his excitement over the maturing, young Avalanche team.

That time finally arrived Friday, when a smiling Sacco walked to the podium in a Family Sports Center conference room, while his team could be seen informally practicing on the neighboring ice sheet.

"For me and the players, it's nice to get back to

Avalanche coach Joe Sacco speaks with the media at Family Sports Center on Friday. (Joe Amon, The Denver Post)

doing what we're accustomed to doing. It's been a long time," Sacco said.

The Avs are back and tentatively set to begin training camp Sunday if the ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement is completed Saturday, with all 30 teams opening 2013 next Saturday. Sacco and other NHL officials are confident that a 48-game regular-season schedule and opening-night opponents will be announced Sunday.

"The mood and the spirit ? I've talked to just about every guy that's back now ? and they're all very excited," Sacco said. "They all seem to have a lot of enthusiasm. The spirit is very high in (the locker room), and just peeking in and watching the scrimmages the other day, their own personal workouts, there's some good jump, some good pace in their steps. It's exciting for everybody. It's certainly been a long time coming."

The Avs' camp will have 26 players, including six who have been called up after spending the first part of the season with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League ? forwards Mark Olver, Mike Sgarbossa, Patrick Bordeleau and David van der Gulik; and defensemen Tyson Barrie and Stefan Elliott.

The players participated in a fourth consecutive informal "captain's practice" (minus coaches) Friday. Goalie Semyon Varlamov, who returned from Russia on Wednesday, was on the ice with the group for the first time.

Sacco said he was excited about newcomers P.A. Parenteau and Greg Zanon, in addition to the maturity of young stars Varlamov, Erik Johnson, Matt Duchene and captain Gabriel Landeskog. Sacco said Parenteau undoubtedly will be used as "a top-six forward" and Zanon as a trusted veteran "defensive defenseman."

The Avs finished 41-35-6 last season (88 points), seven points out of a playoff spot after winning just two of their final seven games. They were in the playoff picture until the final two weeks.

"We had a good little run last year, but we've got to be a playoff team, and there's only 48 (regular-season) games," Avalanche defenseman Shane O'Brien said. "We've got to get it going Jan. 19 and take it from there. There's no reason we shouldn't be a top-eight team in the Western Conference, and that's what we're going for."

Landeskog, a second-year, 20-year-old power forward, replaced veteran Milan Hejduk as captain last summer.

"I feel like when we get some system's skates in this next week, I'm positive ? I'm really optimistic about this group," Landeskog said. "We're a young group, but we're a year older than last year, and we all know how it felt to miss the playoffs a year ago."

Sacco said the team's style of pressuring the puck in all three zones and using its speed won't change. "We have to cover a lot of things in a short amount of time, but probably more important than that is the conditioning aspect of it, trying to make sure when the puck drops in the first game, we are ready to play at a high pace and high level," he said.

Fourth-year forward Ryan O'Reilly, last season's leading scorer, remains unsigned and is playing in Russia. His agent, Mark Guy, resumed negotiations with the Avalanche on Tuesday, and a possible new contract for the popular forward won't be announced until after the CBA ratification process.

"He is not available, and that's a situation that will be with Greg Sherman, our general manager, and Ryan's representatives," Sacco said. "I think you all know how I feel about Ryan. He's a good teammate. He's a good player. ... From a coaching standpoint, we have 26 players here in camp, so it's not much different than when you have a guy injured. My focus is on the 26 guys that I have available."

Wellesley police log: suspect involved in alleged church scam

?

Two weeks prior to the incident, Hughes went to local churches informing them of a possible scam involving David S. Dunn, 43, of 106 Water St., Leominster. Police said Dunn was allegedly showing up at local churches, posing as an Iraqi war veteran and asking for money. Hughes asked local churches to inform police if Dunn appeared on their property, as an outstanding arrest warrant was pending on him.

An employee of the Congregational Church told police that a person she believed to be Dunn had come to the church and asked to speak the pastor. The woman told the man that the pastor was not available and he left. Officer Ronald Poirier spotted Dunn walking on Washington Street near the Wellesley police station, confirmed there was an active warrant pending for him and placed him under arrest. Dunn was later transported to Dedham District Court.

My Own Worst Enemy: Hidden Signs Of Self-Sabotage In Recovery ...

pity party cupcakWhat is the number-one enemy of recovery? Many people say drugs, alcohol or the disease of addiction itself. Perhaps you?d point to unsupportive friends or a flawed health care system or a dysfunctional home life. However, there is a much loftier, much more conniving opponent threatening your sobriety: you.

Addicts are expert self-saboteurs. Addiction itself is, in some ways, an act of self-sabotage. Rather than dealing with uncomfortable feelings and finding workable solutions, addicts turn to drugs and alcohol, temporarily escaping one problem only to create bigger ones. Here are a few ways addicts continue to get in the way of their sobriety, even years into recovery:

Negative Self-Talk

Inside an addict?s mind runs a soundtrack of self-attacks: ?I?ll never get it right.? ?I don?t deserve to be happy.? Many addicts suffer from a core belief that they aren?t good enough or don?t deserve anything but the misery they?ve known in active addiction. They accept self-judgments and abuse they would never tolerate from other people.

Often unbeknownst to the addict, these thoughts translate into feelings of hopelessness and defeat, leaving the addict feeling desperate for a high and powerless to resist. Recognizing and intervening in this ongoing negative commentary and substituting more accurate thinking is an essential skill in recovery.

Self-Pity

As Helen Keller famously said, ?Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything wise in this world.? In moderate doses, feeling sorry for yourself serves a useful purpose in recovery. Many addicts have suffered devastating trauma, both pre-addiction and as a result of their addiction. Grieving for one?s losses can be an integral part of the healing process.

The problem arises when self-pity zaps you of your motivation to recover or turns into resentment, hopelessness or blame. Instead of taking responsibility, self-pity becomes a way to justify blaming others or refusing to take positive action. While self-pity may have served a purpose in active addiction, left untamed, it can jeopardize your recovery.

Ego

?I?m not like these people.? ?I can do this myself.? These ego-centric thoughts typically mask deep-rooted insecurities, anxieties and fears. When ego gets in the way of recovery, the addict becomes competitive with others, working harder to be right than to stay sober. As a result, their recovery is superficial and their personal growth stunted.

Isolation

Most addicts know the hazards of isolation in recovery, but the habit is so ingrained that their natural inclination is to withdraw without even realizing it. Isolation fuels loneliness and depression, increasing the likelihood of a return to addictive thinking and behavior. As with many aspects of recovery, the antidote is within your control: Get involved in activities you enjoy and ask for help, whether from family, friends, a support group, sponsor or other trusted source.

Stress

You can?t block all stress from your life, whether you?re in recovery or not, but you can control how you react to everyday stressors. If you take on too much too soon or refuse to say no when you?re overextended, you make yourself more vulnerable to drug cravings and relapse.

Boredom

Another enemy to recovery that is well within the addict?s control is boredom. Meetings and counseling sessions are integral parts of a recovery program, but they aren?t sufficient to make each day fun and fulfilling. To fill the time once spent getting and using drugs, you?ll need to explore new interests, create an enjoyable daily routine and discover what gives your life meaning.

So how can you prevent yourself from getting in the way of your own recovery? The first step is making yourself aware of negative thinking and problem behavior, whether through journaling, self-help support groups, counseling or other means, and taking responsibility for your sobriety. In recovery, you have all kinds of new freedoms, including the ability to turn your inner voice into your biggest supporter. And as the African proverb says, ?When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.?
